The Louisiana Wetlands Education Center is an educational facility promoting awareness of Louisiana’s environment and the ongoing efforts to address land loss and coastal erosion. Strategically located alongside the Town of Jean Lafitte’s Nature Preserve and Trail and neighboring the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve, the CDBG-funded center serves as an important link between education and environmental stewardship.
By combining contemporary exhibit design with direct access to the surrounding natural environment, the facility serves as a community resource and destination that inspires conservation and appreciation for Louisiana’s coastal heritage.
The Town of Jean Lafitte embodies generations of unique cultural history along Louisiana’s inland waterways, while at the center of recent coastal preservation and wetlands restoration issues.
Hands-on, interactive exhibits by HealyKohler Design blend nature and technology while integrating themes of scientific discovery, habitat exploration, environmental values, and ecological stewardship.

The Louisiana Wetlands Education Center was selected through a competitive CDBG funding process to serve as a hub of environmental education and community engagement. The facility features a broad porch and panoramic windows facing the bayou beyond the levee.
Located in the Barataria Basin on the edge of the bayou, the area offers access to the Jean Lafitte Historical Park and Nature Preserve with boardwalk trails for an inviting walking adventure into swamp habitats.
