25 Years of Progress at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport
How three generations of improvements have shaped BTR
For more than 25 years, WHLC has partnered with Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport to help shape and strengthen the region's gateway to Louisiana's capital city. From major terminal expansions to the latest interior modernization, each project has built upon the airport's commitment to delivering exceptional experience for travelers while supporting future growth.
Terminal Expansion & Renovation (2001)
The 2001 terminal expansion transformed the airport's capacity and functionality, doubling the number of gates and introducing a new rotunda with expansive views of the airfield. The project also added a second-floor pedestrian connection to the parking garage and a third-floor office suite, establishing the foundation for the airport's continued evolution.
Airport Expansion (2014)
The 2014 expansion reimagined the passenger experience by restoring the airport's role as a welcoming public gathering place. The project relocated security screening to restore open access to the celebratory arrival hall and introduce a light-filled pre-flight gallery that reconnects travelers and visitors while offering panoramic views of the airfield.
Terminal Interior Renovations (Today)
The airport's latest modernization refreshes passenger-facing spaces throughout the terminal, including the ticketing lobby, baggage claim, rental car area, concourses, and pedestrian bridge. Updated finishes, lighting, millwork, and furnishings create a cohesive and contemporary environment that enhances comfort and reinforces the airport's identity as the primary gateway to the Capital Region.
